Media Diary (May 2018)

Some things I’ve enjoyed lately, in no particular order, and not necessarily only recent stuff:

Solo: A Star Wars Story (Movie): I had a good time, and was intrigued by some of the options it teed up for the future

Caliphate (Podcast): A fascinating look at extremism

Cobra Kai (TV): This had no right to be as fun as it was

Tell Me How You Really Feel (Album): Thumbs up, she’s great

The Toys That Made Us (TV): Interesting to see the backstories/professional drama behind major childhood icons

Deadpool 2 (Movie): The parachuting scene alone was worth the price of admission

The Wonderland Murders (Podcast): Crazy story, produced beautifully (as usual) by Wondery

Legion (TV): Loved the first season, and the second season continues to get weirder and weirder

I’ve also started making playlists again (after rage-quitting Apple Music and running into Spotify’s loving arms). This month I made May 2018 and Son of May 2018.

Media Diary (April 2018)

Standard disclaimer: Here are some things I’ve enjoyed lately, in no particular order, and not necessarily only recent stuff:

Westworld (TV): So glad it’s finally back (I even ordered a Delos t-shirt, don’t tell the ol’ ball and chain)

Avengers: Infinity War (Movie): I can’t believe they had the stones to adapt Infinity Gauntlet, but they did an amazing job

Dirty Computer (Music): Really fantastic

Isle of Dogs (Movie): Awesome as per usual, and creepily relevant

Where Should We Begin? (Podcast): Fascinating real recordings from therapy sessions as couples discuss marriage, sex and other intense topics

Barry (TV): I mean it’s got Henry Winkler, what else do you need to know?

The Florida Project (Movie): My wife saw a few minutes of this and thought it was the most realistic depiction of childhood she’d ever seen (I agree)

Brotopia (Book): Still reading, but it’s a great/horrifying look at bro culture in the tech industry

With Friends Like These (Podcast): I’ve dabbled with this podcast here and there, but have really enjoyed some of her recent episodes/topics

All The Money in The World (Movie): I can’t believe how fast they turned around the replacement of Spacey with Plummer (who is perfect in it)

Media Diary (March 2018)

Standard disclaimer: Here are some things I’ve enjoyed lately, in no particular order, and not necessarily only recent stuff:

Wild Wild Country (TV): Man, what a story

Trust (TV): Really enjoying this so far, and Brendan Fraser is nailing it

Ready Player One (Movie): Very good, though I may have slightly preferred the book

The Director’s Cut (Podcast): Amazing film director interviews done by other film directors

The Looming Tower (TV): A fascinating look at cross-agency dysfunction prior to 9/11

Boarding House Reach (Music): Jack White, weirder than ever

Atlanta (TV): First season was great, second season might be even better

Silicon Valley (TV): Still destroys me after all these years
