Here’s some stuff I’ve experienced lately (and not necessarily only new releases):
The Iron Claw (Movie): Absolutely heartbreaking, and I can’t believe they had to tone down the real story to make it less tragic
Interview With The Vampire (TV): Glad it’s back, such a strange and solid show
Library (Book): As a long-time Ben fan, it was great to briefly jump into this compelling world he created
Challengers (Movie): Really loved this overall, and the soundtrack has no right being that good
Hacks (TV): Just keeps getting better
The Talented Mr. Ripley (Book): Having been captivated by the new show last month, I thought I’d go back to the source, and I thoroughly enjoyed it
The Talented Mr. Ripley (Movie): I then of course had to go back to rewatch the OG film, which definitely holds up
Ripley Under Ground (Book): This second book is also great so far, so I think I may continue my Ripley voyage
Hollywood Con Queen (TV): A totally bonkers story, and shoutout to a debate kid really going places
Stop Making Sense (Movie): After decades of hearing this called the greatest concert documentary ever made, I now think I 100% agree
Bones and All (Movie): Just when I thought Mark Rylance couldn’t get more terrifying
Doctor Who (TV): Despite a powerhouse guest performance, the Beatles episode was a little rough, but so far this season has been refreshingly awesome
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (Movie): Definitely not as insane as Fury Road, but really liked it, especially the motorcycle chariot
Lynch/Oz (Movie): Absolute catnip for me
Mister Organ (Movie): I need to know more about what’s happened since!
Dark Matter (TV): Not lifechanging, but interested to see where it goes
The Beach Boys (Movie): I personally wanted more problematic ’70s/’80s Brian Wilson/therapist content and less Mike Love generally, but generally a great overview
Spermworld (Movie): A fascinating look into this world
The Contestant (Movie): Absolutely wild that this happened
Late Night With The Devil (Movie): Very cool vibes, loved the concept
The Big Cigar (TV): Light and entertaining, which is a real trick given the subject matter
Kingdom of The Planet of The Apes (Movie): Fast, fun and the apes looked great
STEVE! (Martin): A Documentary in 2 Pieces (Movie): What a career, and I enjoyed the low-key second part
Repo Man (Movie): Had somehow never seen, very glad I remedied this sorry state of affairs
Jurassic Punk (Movie): Early-’90s ILM sounds like it was wild
Turtles All The Way Down (Movie): I’m obviously going to watch any OCD movie, and I thought the two leads were great
Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal (TV): Let’s be real, I’m gonna watch every one of these
Unfrosted (Movie): This got a ton of hate, but I’d just give it a light shrug
Brandy Hellville & the Cult of Fast Fashion (Movie): A solid “yikes” all around
