Alien: Earth

Media Diary (August 2025)

Here’s some stuff I’ve experienced lately (and not necessarily only new releases). In addition, our free Stream Team community has a lot more daily action happening on the recommendations front too. 💪

Alien: Earth (TV): This show has no right to be this great

Eddington (Movie): VERY good, and it’d be tough to choose between this or Midsommar as my top Aster movie

Stoner (Podcast): Interesting “first time with weed” origin stories

Katrina: Come Hell and High Water (TV): Still in the middle of this, but it’s powerful and depressing

The Fantastic Four: First Steps (Movie): Light and fun, loved the cast and overall production design

Billy Joel: And So It Goes (TV): An astounding career, and a great (though long) documentary

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Movie): We went to see the 35th anniversary (!) theatrical re-release, and man does this still hold up!

The Hunting Wives (TV): Can’t believe I’m saying it out loud, but I very much enjoyed this

Deadly Lessons (Movie): This really needs to be experienced without context, then immediately chased by the Flop House episode (hat tip to to the legendary Jessica G for the recommendaysh)

The Yogurt Shop Murders (TV): Super compelling, but ultimately frustrating that we still don’t have closure

Silence (Movie): I’d never seen, but we watched after learning more about this period of Japanese history on our trip, and the movie is legitimately gripping

Ted Bundy: Dialogue with the Devil (TV): I had no idea he’d “consulted” on the Green River Killer case, so I found it super interesting to explore the stories of both murderers

Happy Gilmore 2 (Movie): Dumb and fun, exactly what I wanted from it

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox (TV): I never knew all the details of the case, so I’ve been fully along for this ride

Network (Movie): Big fans on our end, check out the discussion

Peacemaker (TV): Glad it’s back, and glad it’s still as over-the-top as ever (though I think the new opening titles song isn’t quite as epic as the one from season one)

Cheech & Chong’s Last Movie (Movie): Had no idea that Chong was the mastermind playing 4D chess with their early brand and career

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (TV): This show keeps getting goofier and goofier, and I’m here for it

War of the Worlds (Movie): My wife felt generally sad for humanity that this ended up getting made, which is a fair review

Wednesday (TV): Still fun, Jenna is still amazing

Titans: The Rise of Hollywood (TV): The reenactments and overall tone make this super cheesy, but the history itself is fascinating

Black Rain (Movie): Given all the elements, I wanted this to be so much better than it was

Shiny Happy People (TV): Digging the “new story per season” approach, as I hadn’t previously heard about Teen Mania Ministries

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (TV): Their ability to keep making great episodes at this point is almost supernatural

Super High Me (Movie): Mildly entertaining, but not sure I’d rush to watch it

Conversations with a Killer: The Son of Sam Tapes (TV): I’ll pretty much watch anything about Son of Sam, so keep ’em coming

Upload (TV): This really should’ve ended a while back, but generally enjoying the final batch of episodes
