Brown Paper Packages: My 2025 Favorites

Every so often I do a little roundup of my (current) favorite things and/or a peek at what’s on my desk/in my general vicinity.

Here are a couple of the most recent roundups (it’s been a few years, yikes) if you want to take a walk down memory lane.

Done? Here’s the latest batch:

L.L. Bean Wicked Good Slipper Venetian: Since officially becoming old, slippers have become essential. After trying countless lame options, nothing even comes close to these.

Apple Watch SE 3: I’d waited years for the cheap model to have an always-on screen, and I’m loving this upgrade.

Pebble 2 Duo: I couldn’t resist the reboot, and it’s fun to be able to mess around with a fully-open watch ecosystem.

Casio WS-B1000 Series Watch: Dead simple, iconic style and it counts steps! Also, why am I out of control when it comes to all of these various watches? Who can say!

Minoll Back Stretcher: This thing works surprisingly well!

Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 SD Shoes: While I didn’t end up getting the yellow ones to feel closer to Uma Thurman (probably for the best), I love where I landed with these after surviving the insane crowd in an official store in Osaka.

Beats Studio Pro: They’re popular for a reason, and some albums in “spatial audio” are legitimately mindblowing.

Rabbit R1: In non-shocking news, I barely use this, but it’s still gorgeous and brings me some joy. The recent big software update has been great too.

Renpho Eye Massager: Do you look like a complete tool wearing this thing? Affirmative. Is it pretty relaxing though? Also yes.

Kindle Colorsoft: The color is fine (hasn’t changed my life), but the reader itself is excellent (I upgraded from an older Paperwhite model).

Sharge Retro USB C Charger: Bring some silliness into your charging life.

iPhone 16 Pro Max: I stuck with this for another year vs. upgrading (please clap), but I don’t see myself ever going back to the smaller screen.

Nintendo Japanese Capsule Toy Controller Keychains: Keychain schmeychain, these are incredible for fidgeting.

Magnetic Fidget Slider Toys: My boss tipped me off about these, and they’re also pretty high on the list of best fidget toys ever.

Analogue 3D: This just arrived after a painful delay, but it’s incredible.

Dithering Podcast: It sounds crazy, but the guaranteed 15-minute max episode length is what makes this subscription entirely worth it.

Cocofloss Woven Dental Floss: If you think you can’t have your life changed by a new type of dental floss, you are incorrect.

Perplexity Pro: AI is clearly not without (many) faults, but real talk: I’ve entirely ditched Google search for this.

Fre Non-Alcoholic Wines: Since ditching alcohol about a decade ago (I’m now “California Sober”), I’ve followed the steady improvement in NA wines, and these honestly aren’t too bad.

Vinyl Records: I’ve gotten more and more into vinyl records as I rapidly decay, and I find the act of standing up to specifically grab and listen to a full physical album to be almost meditative.

Hamilton Beach Smart Coffee Maker: Fully insane that this exists, but if either of us gets up early, you better believe we’re telling Alexa to start the coffee right from bed.

Atlas Coffee Club: Slightly extravagant, but it’s a treat when it arrives every month, like I’m going on a sad little international trip.
